Triangular Butterflyfish

The Triangular Butterflyfish, Chaetodon sp., also known as the Baroness Butterflyfish, Baronessa Butterflyfish, Eastern Triangle Butterflyfish , Eastern Triangular Butterflyfish, Herringbone Coralfish, Pacific Triangular Butterflyfish, Triangular Coralfish. With its grey colored body and darker chevron markings on the side, a bright yellow head with three reddish-brown bar including one on the snout, and a bright yellow submarginal band on the tail, the Triangular Butterflyfish makes a gorgeous addition to any tank. The juvenile Triangular Butterflyfish is often seen in groups among branching corals such as Acropora corals. The Triangular Butterflyfish prefers to live in pairs and can grow up to 5 inches, and should be kept in a tank no less than 75 gallons if kept individually, and no less than 110 gallons of kept in a pair. The tank should also have plenty of live rock, creating caves for the Triangular Butterflyfish to hide if threatened, along with plenty of room for swimming, as they are very active. Since they are peaceful in nature, they should only be kept with other peaceful species, in a Fish only tank, but may become territorial towards other Butterflyfish. They are not considered reef safe, as they will eat Polyps of Corals, and smaller Invertebrates. In the wild, this fish is an obligate corallivore, feeding exclusively upon the polyps of Acropora Stony Corals, therefor is not a good choice for a beginner aquarist and is considered difficult to keep and feed, and is suggested for advanced aquarists only. Along with their diet of Coral, you can also try to feed them a carnivorous diet, consisting of finely chopped meaty foods like Shrimp, Krill, Crustacean Flesh, and Squid. They will thrive in a temperature range of 77-81°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4.
