Shiro Utsuri. Shiro Utsuri is a variety of koi with black and white patches. Because of the simplicity, this koi can be very monotone. However, this koi is different. With the perfect arrangement of the black and white, the design really stands out. Ichimatsu is considered an ideal pattern for Shiro Utsuri. Ichimatsu means checkerboard. Starting from the shoulder through the tail, the Sumi (black) and Shiroji (white) come one after another. What I admire is the tail section. It is called Odome or tail stop. The last Sumi is placed at the perfect location with perfect size.
